01What happened
The story, straight
On June 18, shortly after Rockstar Games revealed the official Grand Theft Auto 6 cover art, the White House's official Twitter account posted its own version of the artwork featuring President Donald Trump and his "Make America Great Again" slogan rendered in the classic GTA font. The image, likely generated with AI, mimicked the pink and purple hues of the real GTA 6 artwork and featured four different Trump poses. Kotaku's Zack Zwiezen reported that the post appeared timed to distract from the Reflecting Pool, which had turned green with algae less than a month after a presidential paint job, and from visible peeling of that recent fix.
same day rockstar dropped the real GTA 6 cover art, the white house twitter account posted its own version — trump in four poses, "Make America Great Again" in the GTA font, pink and purple vibes. almost certainly AI-generated. kotaku says the timing wasn't subtle: the reflecting pool is literally green right now, the president's recent paint job is already peeling off, and team trump needed literally anything else to talk about.

05Why it matters
The editorial take
The post illustrates how official government social media accounts are adopting meme culture and AI-generated imagery for political messaging, blurring the line between entertainment marketing and state communications. It also underscores how quickly gaming culture moments — in this case, a major cover art reveal — get co-opted for non-gaming purposes.
official government accounts are now doing memes with AI art to change the subject. the GTA 6 cover reveal lasted maybe an hour before it became political content. gaming culture is just political raw material at this point.
